A 100% NGC graded Merry-Go-Round collection of Lincoln Memorial Reverse business strike small cents encompassing 50 years of production from 1959 through 2008 by three Mints, mainly from Philadelphia and Denver with help from San Francisco.
Sheila and I began our coin collection in 2007/2008, right at the end of the Lincoln Memorial production. Ever since then the set has been a slow work in progress first emphasizing obtaining the 1999 to 2008 coins, followed by the 1980's and 1990's coinage, down to the 1970's decade of coins and lastly working on the 1960's tough dates. Auctions on eBay initially played the central role of obtaining new coins. There were many different sellers over time, but none came close to the "King of Coins," Mark DiLauro of "datentype." For decades he put on the best show in his 2 to 3 hours of auction listings every Sunday. His uncanny skills of grading brought the highest grades to the market providing coins of envy to collectors while providing a wild experience of fun to learn and get first hand knowledge about the coins and the business of coin collecting that one could not find in any published book. Thank you, Mark, for the coins and resulting expertise learned from your supreme efforts put in. Lately, with Mark's semi-retirement in Hawaii most all attention or focus is on the Sunday auctions held online at GreatCollections, now ANA's premier licensed house of choice. GC's rise to the top is legendary and the deserved credit goes to its President , Ian, for his hard work in doing things the right way for success.
As far as providing an over-view on the coins in the set, I always say each coin speaks for themselves and by clicking any coin a write-up has been provided giving the Registry grade rankings, pop data, Price Guide values and some pricing with some personal comments about these things including the who or where the coin was obtained. However, I'll provide a short list of the best for you right here. The spotlight starts with all the MS 69 RD key coins:
2006-P LIN MS69 RD 7/0 ($600) R1450(#1)
2005-P LIN MS69 RD 113/0 ($50) R201(#1)
2005-D LIN MS69 RD 96/0 ($125) R437(#1)
2003-P LIN MS69 PL 9/0 ($125) R348(#1)
2003-D LIN MS69 RD 23/0 ($160) R502(#1)
2002-D LIN MS69 RD 15/0 ($285) R320(#1)
1993-D LIN MS69 RD 26/0 ($3,000) R3545(#1)
1992-P LIN MS69 RD 30/0 ($800) R1505(#1)
1985-P LIN MS69 RD 10/0 ($) R1677(#1)
1984-P LIN MS69 RD 7/0 ($) R517(#1)
Obtaining more of these kind grades is a prime focus going forward as the MS 69 RD is what collecting at its best is all about.
A second spotlight goes to the two coins graded MS 68 RD in the 1970's;
1979-P LIN MS68 RD 41/0 ($375) R1505(#1)
1974-D LIN MS68 RD 6/0 ($) R684(#1)
More of these to add is a major goal as is achieving all MS 67 RD grades for the 1960's coins in the near future.
That's all I want to say for now about our #3 rank Lincoln Cents, Memorial Reverse, 1959-2008, Circulation Issue, Including Varieties (only one for now) Registry Set for now. Toot-a-lou from Sheila Moore in heaven and Edward Lauth. God Bless.
