One of the smallest countries on earth and the largest raised coral atoll in the world, the Pacific Island of Niue is an isolated country located in Polynesia, east of Tonga and northeast of New Zealand. In 1774, Captain James Cook named Niue ‘Savage Island’ due to the fact that he was refused landing by the locals on three different attempts. There are about 1,500 people in 14 villages on this Pacific Island paradise and village life is still the focus for Niue's cultural and political organisation.
The country has distinguished itself as an issuer of modern collectible coins. Its amazing coins that feature Zodiac signs, Faberge eggs, photos by Anne Geddes, good luck symbols, the world's amazing wildlife, love puzzles and Chinese Lunar Calendar have become very popular with collectors all over the world.
