Complete Set in Mint State Condition.
The five coins in the complete set are comprised of four types as Alfonso XIII's portrait ages from infant to young adult.
One date is common (1890), two dates are somewhat uncommon (1889, 1899), and two dates are rare (1892, 1904).
This set contains the sole finest certified examples of the two rare dates (1892, 1904).
In the Slot Description below, the date in parentheses refers to the date stamped incusely into the stars located on either side of the official date. For instance, on the 1889 coin, the left star reads "18" and the right star reads "89." The official date and the star date are not always the same although in this set they are. The star date designates the year the coin was actually minted, which can sometimes differ from the official (authorization by law) date.
The three initials (e.g., MPM) are the initials of the two mint assayers and the mint's scale judge who PERSONALLY guaranteed the coin's purity and weight. The initials appear on the coin's reverse, assayers to the left, scale judge to the right.
The mint mark is the 6-pointed star, meaning "minted in Madrid." Mints in other Spanish cities used 3-, 4-, 7-, or 8-pointed stars, but those mints had closed by 1870. Mintage for overseas provinces (Puerto Rico; Philippines) used 5-pointed stars.
Coin weight 6.451612 grams. Purity 900 fine.
