Two bits!
This set started with the 1983-P quarter. When the book "100 Greatest US Modern Coins" first came out, I was determined to someday have the best collection. This goal was obtained, if only for a year. One coin that was necessary for that set was the seemingly humble 1983-P quarter. I read up as to why it was so hard to find high grade examples of that coin, as well as all of the other clad quarters from this era. Also adding to my interest is the fact that my father owned an antique Vegas slot machine which was very popular with the neighbors. I learned to maintain that machine, and I frequently emptied the coin bin. The coins of this set were the ones that I saw. It tickles me a bit that I now own some of the best examples of those slot machine bin quarters.
This set features several solo "top pops" and a few more with a population of 2 or 3.
Much thanks to Ed Lauth of the Sheila Moore Trust. Many of these coins were once in his top rated set. He has provided much interesting insight into Modern Coin collecting.
