I love this little set. It's a complete set, although I intend to improve it. I also a have a 1979-P Wide Rim with the FS-106 variety notation that's listed in one of my Custom sets.
The Susan B. Anthony dollar was minted from 1979 to 1981, and again in 1999. The Anthony dollar is the second copper-nickel dollar coin produced for circulation in the US; the first was the Eisenhower dollar in 1971. It was the first non-commemorative circulating US coin to feature the portrait of an actual woman rather than an allegorical figure.
The obverse features a portrait of Susan - - not too flattering, in my opinion . . . She was born in 1820 and raised in New York. She was involved in abolitionism, temperance, women’s voting rights, and other political movements of her time until her death in 1906.
The reverse features the Bald Eagle landing on the moon (in honor of Apollo 11). This is the same reverse as the one found on the Eisenhower dollar.
When the coin was introduced, it was thought it would replace the dollar bill, but the coin never caught on. As it turned out, the SBA is considered by many as the most unpopular US coin ever. It was one of our shortest-lived coins . . . Makes one wonder why I collect them . . .
