19 coins are required to form a complete mint set. Although there are no rarities in this set, I consider the set very difficult to complete because several coins are moderately scarce and one coin is very rare and therefore expensive in any grade better than VF. Based on the NGC population census figures, the three scarcest date are the 1904-O Half (NGC pop of 106 pieces), the 1904-O Quarter (NGC pop of 158 pieces) and the 1904-S Dime (NGC pop of 162 pieces). The 1904-S Half is rare in grades better than VF and if the collector wants a mid-grade uncirculated piece, he has less than a half dozen NGC pieces to choose from and should be prepared to pay in the $20,000 range for the coin.
