Walkers with the varieties NGC chooses to include. I also have the following that NGC does not recognize:30469020
- 1936-D DDO (PCGS MS-66, not attributed), which NGC describes as "master die doubling". Doubling is very pronounced on the lower skirt and sandals
- 1944-D Hand Cut AW (PCGS MS-66, not attributed). NGC now says this variety is "too insignificant" to recognize, although they did attribute them years ago, and PCGS still does.
***Update: I sold this coin, and now it appears NGC has changed their position again and are now certifying this variety. Irritating!!!
I recently found a NGC MS-64 1942 and had it attributed as DDO by NGC, and a raw 1939-D/D that graded AU-58. Only two variety slots left; 1928-S Small S, and 1944-S/S FS-501.
*** Update: NGC has now added two MORE slots to this "set", another 1941-D/D and a1942-D/D. I give up. I will not keep playing this game where they keep moving the goalposts.
**** Another update: NGC has now added ANOTHER 1942-D/D variety to this "set". Confirms my earlier decision to opt out of this rigged game.
***Final (probably) update: Today I added a 1928-S Small S, which will most likely be the last addition or upgrade to this set. I won't waste my time trying to keep up with NGC's changing definition of this set, and I have no plans to look for the recently added RPMs. I hate to leave blank spaces in a set but that 's just going to have to be.
****Another update: NGC dropped one variety I had in my set (1936 DDO) and added several more RPM’s and missing AW’s. End result is now seven open slots and a high probability that more will open up even if I fill those. Game over for me.
One last comment: there are 22 recognized varieties in this “set” in addition to the 65 entries in the basic Walking Liberty set. I have 15 of the original 16 recognized varieties (plus none of the recent additions). For several years, my set was #1 in this category. A new set was added a couple of years ago, with lots of high graded coins but NOT A SINGLE ONE of the 22 recognized varieties above the basic set. That set is now #1. Seems like a set described as “Walking Liberty Half Dollars Including Varieties” should include at least ONE of the 22 recognized varieties?
