When I first got into coins, I decided to complete a United States Type set. I wanted an evenly matched set in the grades of vf-xf. When I got to the Barber Half, I quickly found that there wasn’t a big supply of coins readily available in the grades that I wanted. Sure I could find the cleaned or damaged coins, but I wanted a nice original problem free coin. Upon completing my type set, I needed a new pursuit, I chose Barber Halves. I started collecting in May of 2002, and am close to the completion of my set. I chose to complete the set in f-xf. My ultimate goal is to complete the set in vf-xf. I have found that it was a great challenge to locate many key date coins in grades above vg. If I had an unlimited budget, I could have completed the set in MS a year ago as they are more readily available. I currently have 69 of the 73 coins that I need all in fine and above. I still need the 1896-O, 1898-O, 1901-S, and the highly elusive 1904-S, the king in my opinion. I also am a member of the Barber Coinage Collectors Society (BCCS).
