This set is special to me for several reasons. 1) I got started like many collectors to day with a seemingly innocent gift of a birth year proof set from my dad. As a result I was bitten by the bug at age 8.
2) In 1968, with my own earned cash, from washing the dishes for my mom, I made my first purchase, an 1860 Indian cent in a rough Fine condition. This was fascinating to me as it was 100 years before my birth and the date on the proof set.
3) when I entered my second decade of life I replaced that cent with a nicer one (I still have the first, ugly one). The journey began.
Once I had a real job I put together a copper nickel silver 1860 set. Then as I added gold I decided to have every mint that was operating in 1860 represented. and now in my 50's I am working on a complete set.
