Several NGC-graded Examples of Spanish Colonial Royal Coinage May Realize Six Figures in Sale

Nearly 150 rare coins from Latin America and Spain that are certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) and pedigreed to the Pat Johnson Collection are being offered in a Stack's Bowers auction. Bidding is already underway for the NYINC Auction - Session C sale, which concludes on January 16, 2022.
The auction includes dozens of examples of Royal Coinage, which were struck as presentation pieces for powerful individuals using specially prepared dies and planchets. These include a Mexico 1725MO D Royal Coinage 8 Reales graded NGC AU 55, with an estimate of $150,000 to $200,000. It bears the name of King Louis I of Spain, who ruled for less than eight months in 1724 before dying of smallpox.

Other NGC-certified highlights pedigreed to the Pat Johnson Collection in the sale include:

- a Mexico 1711MXO J Royal Coinage 4 Escudos graded NGC MS 66 and also pedigreed to the 1715 Fleet (lot 2060) with an estimate of $70,000 to $100,000
- a Mexico 1613/2MO F Royal Coinage 8 Reales graded NGC AU Details (lot 2051) with an estimate of $40,000 to $60,000
- a Mexico 1732MO Milled 4 Reales graded NGC MS 64+ (lot 2075) with an estimate of $40,000 to $60,000
- a Mexico 1747MO MF 4 Escudos graded NGC AU 58 (lot 2082) with an estimate of $35,000 to $50,000
- a Mexico (c.1600)MO F Royal Coinage 8 Reales graded NGC XF 45 (lot 2050) with an estimate of $30,000 to $40,000
- a Mexico 1723MO J Royal Coinage 8 Reales graded NGC AU 53 (lot 2069) with an estimate of $30,000 to $40,000
