NGC-certified Group of Italian Coins Realizes Over $250,000

Realizing over $250,000, a group of four Italian gold coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) led the way in a pair of auctions presented by Numismatica Ars Classica NAC. Several other NGC-certified coins realized impressive sums in Auction 129 and Auction 130, which were held December 1 and 2, 2021.

The group of four Italy 1926R gold coins realized €242,700 (about $274,000). They include a 100 Lire graded NGC MS 65+, a 50 Lire graded NGC MS 65, a 20 Lire graded NGC MS 66 and a 10 Lire graded NGC MS 63 (Auction 129, lot 247). The obverse of each shows King Victor Emmanuel III, who ruled for nearly all of the first half of the 20th century, while the reverse shows a plowwoman (or “aratrice”).

• an Italy 1937R XVI 100 Lire graded NGC MS 66 (Auction 129, lot 332) that realized €49,753 (about $56,000)
• an Italy (1482-90) Savoy Ducat graded NGC AU 55 (Auction 130, lot 725) that realized €38,832 (about $44,000)
• an Italy 1905R 100 Lire graded NGC MS 62 PL (Auction 129, lot 202) that realized €33,978 (about $38,000)
• an Italy 1941R XX 20 Lire graded NGC MS 64+ (Auction 129, lot 353) that realized €33,978 (about $38,000)
