Spectacular NGC-certified Coins of King George III Featured in Swiss Auction

The Maison Palombo sale is offering an impressive selection of ancient and vintage world coins graded by NGC.

Two spectacular coins from Great Britain stand out among hundreds of ancient and vintage coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) in an upcoming sale presented by Maison Palombo Geneve. Bidding for Auction 20 is now available, with the sale concluding on January 22, 2022.

One of the top lots in the sale is a magnificent coin of King George III: a Great Britain 1817 Silver Pattern Crown graded NGC PF 63 (lot 141). The reverse features William Wyon’s famous “Three Graces” design, in which England, Ireland and Scotland are each represented by a female figure. This rarity has a starting price of 140,000 CHF (about $151,700).

Also in the sale is a Great Britain 1777 Gold Pattern 2 Guineas graded NGC PF 63 Cameo (lot 135) that has a starting price of 130,000 CHF (about $140,800). This particular rarity shows a younger profile of George III and is one of only three in the NGC Census.

Other NGC-certified highlights in the sale include:

  • a Roman Empire Julia Domna, AD 193-217 Gold Aureus graded NGC Ancients MS★, 5/5 Strike and 5/5 Surface with Fine Style (lot 64), with a starting price of 100,000 CHF (about $108,300)
  • a Great Britain 1820 Gold Pattern 2 Sovereign graded NGC PF 63 Ultra Cameo (lot 139), with a starting price of 60,000 CHF (about $65,200)
  • a Lydia Croesus, 561-546 BC Gold Stater graded NGC Ancients Ch MS★, 5/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface (lot 24), with a starting price of 50,000 CHF (about $54,300)
  • an Italy 1850R IV Papal States 20 Baiocchi Gold Off Metal Strike graded NGC PF 62 and pedigreed to Farouk (lot 566), with a starting price of 40,000 CHF (about $43,500)
  • a Roman Empire Severus Alexander, AD 222-235 Gold Quinarius graded NGC Ancients Ch AU, 5/5 Strike and 3/5 Surface (lot 70), with a starting price of 35,000 CHF (about $38,000)
  • a France 1974 Gold Essai 10 Francs graded NGC PF 68 Cameo (lot 408), with a starting price of 28,000 CHF (about $30,400)
  • a France 1858A Franc graded NGC PF 65 (lot 374), with a starting price of 26,000 CHF (about $28,200)
  • a France 1978 Gold Essai 2 Francs graded NGC PF 66 (lot 414), with a starting price of 24,000 CHF (about $26,000)
