Two Rare NGC-certified Chinese Silver Dollars Expected to Sell for Well into the Six Figures

The Heritage sale in Hong Kong features hundreds of NGC-certified coins from around the world.

Two Chinese silver dollars certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) are each expected to sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars in an upcoming Heritage Auctions sale. Online bidding is already underway for the World Coins Signature Auction in Hong Kong, with the sale ending December 11-13, 2021.

One of the top lots is a China (1911) Long Whiskered Dragon Silver Dollar graded NGC PF 63 (lot 34011). Created right before the end of China’s Imperial era, this coin features renowned engraver Luigi Giorgi’s beloved dragon design on the obverse. The high-grade example has an estimate of $500,000 to $700,000.

Meanwhile, the auction includes two coins that depict warlords from 1920s China. A China (1928) Pattern Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 62 (lot 34077) features Zhang Zuolin (also known as the Mukden Tiger), a warlord of Manchuria from 1922 until his assassination in the Huanggutun incident in 1928. This coin, examples of which rarely are seen at auction, has an estimate of $300,000 to $500,000.

Another coin attracting interest in the sale is a China 1924 Silver Dollar featuring warlord Duan Qirui, who became acting Chief Executive of China from 1924 to 1926. Graded NGC MS 66 (lot 34076), this coin has an estimate of $80,000 to $100,000.

Other NGC-certified highlights in the sale include:

  • a China 1898 Anhwei Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 61 (lot 34018), which has an estimate of $30,000 to $40,000
  • a China 1903 Kirin Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 61 (lot 34042), which has an estimate of $30,000 to $40,000
  • a China (1890-1905) Kwangtung 50 Cents graded NGC SP 64 (lot 34043), which has an estimate of $25,000 to $30,000
  • a China (1932) Birds over Junk Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 65 (lot 34078), which has an estimate of $25,000 to $35,000
  • a China (1920) Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 67+ (lot 34073), which has an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000
  • a China 1902 Kiangnan Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 64 (lot 34039), which has an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000
  • a China (1932) Birds over Junk Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 64 (lot 34079), which has an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000
  • a China 1906 Hupeh 20 Cash graded NGC MS 65 RB (lot 34023), which has an estimate of $15,000 to $20,000
  • a Spain 1775M PJ 8 Escudos graded NGC MS 65+ (lot 34117) with an estimate of $5,000 to $7,000
