Greek Rarities Certified by PMG and NGC Featured in A. Karamitsos Sale

Hundreds of historic banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) as well as coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) are featured in an upcoming sale presented by renowned Greece-based auction house A. Karamitsos. Online bidding for Auction 686 (Part A and Part B) is already underway, with the sale concluding December 4, 2021.
Leading the sale is a note that survived the turbulent end of World War II and the Greek Civil War. A rare Greece, Civilian Committee of National Liberation 1944 25 Okas graded PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated (lot 06708) has a starting price of €16,500 or about $19,000 USD.

Featured on the note’s front is a vignette of a man with a rifle standing as a central figure between a city engulfed in flames and farmers working the fields.

Also in the sale are several spectacular NGC-certified rarities, including a Greece (1832-62) Silver Medal bearing the image of Queen Amalia. From 1836 to 1862, Amalia was the Queen Consort to King Otto until they were exiled and lived the rest of their lives in Bavaria. During her tenure, she is attributed with the creation of the National Gardens of Athens, which is referenced on the medal’s reverse. Graded NGC MS 62, this highly detailed rarity has a starting price of €4,500 (about $5,200 USD).
