Posted on 10/15/2021

From ancients to modern, hundreds of NGC-certified coins are featured in the October sale.

More than 600 coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) are part of Heritage Auctions’ World and Ancient Coin Signature Auction, taking place October 28-29, 2021. Online bidding is already underway for the sale, which features rarities from the ancient world to modern times.

Leading the sale is a large gold coin (lot 30112) from the modern era. The Great Britain 2020 “Three Graces” 1 Kilogram Gold 1,000 Pounds is part of a commemorative series celebrating England’s famous engravers over the past 300 years. Graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo, this beautiful coin in an NGC Oversize Holder has an estimate of $100,000 to $120,000.

Designed by famed Royal Mint engraver William Wyon, the obverse features three elegant figures representing Ireland, England and Scotland. Wyon is also revered for creating the “Una and the Lion” and the Young Head series of Queen Victoria, which celebrated her coronation.

Also in the sale is a coin that dates to the Spanish colonies during the reign of King Charles III (1759-1788). This well-struck Colombia 1770NR VJ 8 Reales graded NGC MS 64 (lot 30056) has an estimate of $60,000 to $80,000.

Meanwhile, a Sicily, Syracuse circa 405-370 B.C. Silver Decadrachm graded NGC Ancients AU, 4/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface with Fine Style features the bust of the mythical Arethusa with four dolphins swimming around her. Arethusa's story tells of how she was pursued by a river god, and she turned into a spring that flows underground into the ocean. This fascinating coin (lot 30001) has an estimate of $40,000 to $50,000.
