Hundreds of NGC-graded coins from Europe are being offered in the Gabinet Numizmatyczny D. Marciniak sale.

Gabinet Numizmatyczny D. Marciniak, based in Warsaw, Poland, is offering hundreds of Polish and other European rarities certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) in an upcoming sale. With offerings ranging from ancient to modern, online bidding is now open for the seven sessions of Auction 15 - Fall '21, which are being held October 1-7, 2021.

The top lot in the sale is a rare Poland (1648-68)IH Danzig 4 Ducat graded NGC MS 60 (lot 1164) with a starting price of €48,889 (about $57,000 USD). Minted in Danzig, which is now known as Gdańsk, the coin features a bust of John II Casimir, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1648 until 1668. Beneath the King’s cloak are the initials I and H, which stand for Jan Höhn, the famed engraver at the Danzig mint.

King John Casimir used large gold coins such as this 4 Ducat as gifts and as propaganda. The coins, featuring detailed depictions of Danzig, painted a picture of a rich and wealthy city valued highly by the Polish Crown. The times were against the King, however. In 1668, he was forced to abdicate and retire to France.

Other NGC-certified coins in the sale include:

  • a Poland 1586 Danzig Ducat graded NGC MS 62 (lot 729) with a starting price of €5,556 (about $6,500 USD)
