Chinese Silver Rarity Certified by NGC Featured in September Sale

Over 450 NGC-certified coins are being offered by Stack's Bowers in Hong Kong.

A rare Chinese Silver Dollar is among hundreds of coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation™ (NGC®) that are being offered in Stack’s Bowers’ Hong Kong sale. Online bidding is underway, with the various sessions of the sale ending between September 28 and October 1, 2021.

The top NGC-certified lot, in Session D, is a China 1897 Kiangnan Silver Dollar with Herringbone Edge graded NGC MS 64 and pedigreed to the Chinese Family Collection (lot 22218). The obverse features a well-struck dragon and is elegantly encompassed with a herringbone motif along the edge.

Coins like this one were circulated throughout the Kiangnan province, which is home to Shanghai, the largest city in China today. This example boasts the highest grade in the NGC Census and has an estimate of $150,000 to $225,000.
