Online bidding for a rare “city view” coin is already close to $100,000 in the Auction World sale.

Vintage rarities from Europe that have been certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®), are part of the Auction World Sale 25 this month in Japan. Bidding is already underway for the sale, being held July 17-19, 2021.

The centerpiece of the sale is a Germany (1745-65) Regensburg 8 Ducats graded NGC MS 61 (lot 3267). The large coin features a bust of Francis I, who was crowned Holy Roman Emperor in 1745. For a period during the 17th through the 19th centuries, various German States and other locales issued coins that feature intricate depictions of skylines, with masterful engraving and intricate details. These “city view” coins are appreciated by numismatic enthusiasts today because they provide a first-hand, almost-photographic representation of what depicted cities looked like at the time the coins were minted.
