Three NGC-certified European Rarities Realize Six Figures in German Auction

One of the vintage gold coins commemorates a Holy Roman Emperor, while two others commemorate the end of a devastating war.

Three vintage gold coins certified Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) achieved impressive results in Auction 350: Gold Coins from All Over the World. Presented by Künker Münzauktionen und Goldhandel, the sale ended July 1, 2021.

An Austrian Netherlands 1751 10 Souverain d'or graded NGC MS 61 (lot 5) realized €144,000 (about $171,000 USD). The coin was issued during the period in which the Habsburgs were in control of the Southern Netherlands (which includes much of modern Belgium). The coin features a bust of Francis I, who ruled as Holy Roman Emperor from 1745 to 1765.

Two more coins realizing six figures both celebrate the end of the Nine Years’ War, which devastated much of Europe from 1688 through 1697. A German States 1698 Nurnberg 6 Ducats graded NGC MS 62 (lot 465) realized €144,000 (about $171,000 USD), while a German States 1698 Nurnberg 5 Ducats graded NGC MS 61 (lot 466) realized €132,000 (about $156,400 USD).

  • a 12-piece Great Britain 1911 Proof Set graded NGC PF 63 to NGC PF 66 Cameo (lot 64) that realized €40,800 (about $48,400 USD)
  • a Central American Republic 1833CR F 8 Escudos graded NGC MS 61 (lot 165) that realized €36,000 (about $42,700 USD)
  • a Germany 1792 Bavaria 3 Ducats graded NGC MS 63 (lot 287) that realized €34,800 (about $41,200 USD)
  • an Austria (post-1843) Vienna Salvator Mundi 12 Ducats graded NGC PF 61 Ultra Cameo (lot 266) that realized €26,400 (about $31,300 USD)
  • a Belgium (1346-84) Flanders Heaume d'or graded NGC AU 58 (lot 6) that realized €21,600 (about $25,600 USD)
