Three NGC-certified Swiss Gold Rarities Highlight Sincona Auction

The NGC-graded vintage gold coins are the top lots in the May sale.

Three Swiss gold coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) are highlights in two Sincona Auctions sales, 69 and 70. Online bidding is currently underway and will conclude May 17-19, 2021.

One of the top lots is a Switzerland 1617 Haldenstein 7 Ducat graded NGC MS 63 (Auction 70, lot 3389). The obverse bears the image and the name of Thomas von Schauenstein Ehrenfels who commissioned the coin’s production almost a decade after inheriting Haldenstein. This high-grade coin has a starting price of 80,000 CHF (about $87,400 USD).

Another Swiss coin vying for the top spot also has a starting price of 80,000 CHF (about $87,400 USD). A Switzerland 1741 Basel 6 Ducat graded NGC MS 63 PL (Auction 70, lot 3096) features the city of Basel framed by eight coats of arms. The reverse depicts a basilisk with the Basel coat of arms.

A third coin with a starting price of 80,000 CHF (about $87,400 USD) is a Switzerland 1720 Zurich 5 Ducat graded NGC MS 62 (Auction 70, lot 3669). Featuring a detailed cityscape of Zurich on the obverse, the reverse depicts Zurich’s coat of arms with a fierce lion brandishing a sword.

Other notable NGC-graded coins in the sale include:

  • a United States 1838-D $5 graded NGC MS 62 (Auction 69, lot 1384) with a starting price of 25,000 CHF (about $27,300 USD)
  • a Russia 1832CNB 12 Roubles graded NGC AU Details (Auction 69, lot 1194) with a starting price of 25,000 CHF (about $27,300 USD)
