NGC Research Director David W. Lange to Present at 2021 NNP Symposium

Posted on 3/18/2021

Lange will discuss options for variety attribution of US coins and why variety attribution is beneficial to collectors.

David W. Lange, Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) Research Director, is presenting at the Newman Numismatic Portal (NNP) Symposium. Following the success of its first symposium in 2020, NNP’s second event will be held virtually between March 19–21 and feature nearly 40 presentations. Lange’s presentation is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. ET on March 19, 2021.

Lange has been a coin enthusiast for more than 50 years. He has authored 10 books about United States numismatics, and his latest book explores the history of Whitman Publishing Company’s Coin Supply. Lange has received numerous accolades for his writing, including from the American Numismatic Association (ANA) and the Numismatic Literary Guild, which honored Lange in 2018 with its prestigious Clemy Award. In 2009, Lange was the recipient of the ANA’s Lifetime Achievement Award and, in 2017, he was recognized as the foundation’s Numismatist of the Year.

Lange’s presentation, the Case for Variety Attribution in Certified Grading, will discuss options for variety attribution of US coins offered by NGC. He will also explore examples of varieties and examine how variety attribution is beneficial to both submitters and online viewers.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be one of the presenters for the symposium,” says Lange. “Having a platform to share and educate other coin enthusiasts is an important aspect in growing interest and passion for the world of numismatics.”

The NNP Symposium is an assembly of diverse numismatic presentations that cover a variety of topics, including US coins, ancient coins, medals, currency, counterfeits and the numismatic industry. The symposium is a free online convention and is sponsored by the Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society and the Newman Numismatic Portal.

“We are delighted to have David Lange as one of the presenters in the 2021 NNP Symposium,” says NNP Symposium Coordinator Lianna Spurrier. “His knowledge and enthusiasm are invaluable to the world of numismatics, and our audience will surely benefit from his insight.”
