Three NGC-certified Chinese Rarities Star in Heritage Sale
Posted on 12/11/2020
Vintage and modern rarities from China graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) are among the highlights in Heritage Auctions’ HKINF World Coins and Ancient Coins sale being held from December 17-19, 2020. Online bidding is now open.
One of the stars of the sale is a China 1906 Pattern Tael (K-934) graded NGC MS 64, which has an estimate of $100,000 to $150,000. Struck at the Tientsin Mint six years after its re-establishment in 1900, the Tael was meant to replace the standard Mace-Candareens. While its introduction into widespread circulation ultimately failed due to political turmoil, its design influenced the later Imperial issues of 1908.
Another piece from the Tientsin Mint is a China 1914 Silver Dollar (L&M-72) graded NGC MS 63 from the Republic of China dollar series. It is tied for the second finest of its kind in the NGC Census. Although it is a pattern coin, it is difficult to find an example that is so well-preserved. This coin also has an estimate of $100,000 to $150,000 USD.
