Newly Discovered 1876-CC Half Eagle, Now Certified by NGC, Stars in Spink Sale
Posted on 12/6/2020
A spectacular 1876-CC Liberty Half Eagle certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is featured in its own special sale being held by Spink in London. Online bidding for the E Pluribus Unum e-Auction is now open and ends December 14, 2020.
More than a week before the auction, the recently discovered 1876-CC Liberty Head Half Eagle graded NGC MS 62 had already surpassed its estimate of $30,000 to $40,000 USD. The key date rarity is one of only 6,887 pieces struck, the lowest yearly mintage for any $5 coin from the storied Carson City Mint.
This example is one of only three certified in Mint State and the second finest of its kind. Most 1876-CC Half Eagles are well-circulated and poorly preserved.
Spink is also holding a World Gold Coins e-Auction on December 14, 2020. NGC-certified rarities in this sale include:
- a Switzerland 1925B Gold 100 Francs graded NGC AU Details that has an estimate of £6,000 to £8,000 (about $8,100 to $10,800 USD)
