PMG-certified World Banknotes and NGC-certified World Coins Highlight Two Spink Sales in Hong Kong

A China note and a Hong Kong note have the highest estimates in the October and November sales.

World coins and banknotes certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) and Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are being featured in Spink’s China Coins and Banknotes sale on October 31, 2020 and the Hong Kong and World Coins and Banknotes sale on November 1, 2020. The sales will be held at Spink’s offices in Hong Kong, China. Online bidding is now open.

China / People’s Republic 1953 10 Yuan graded PMG 30 Very Fine

The most anticipated banknote of the China Coins and Banknotes sale is a China / People's Republic 1953 10 Yuan graded PMG 30 Very Fine, estimated at HK$60,000 to HK$80,000 (about $7,700 to $10,300 USD). The front of the banknote features two peasants pointing into the distance, symbolizing the agriculture industry’s tremendous growth during Chairman Mao Zedong’s rule from 1949 to 1976. The back of the note depicts the national emblem of the People’s Republic of China, established by Mao in 1949.

A PMG-certified note leading the Hong Kong and World Coins and Banknotes sale has an estimate of HK$50,000 to HK$75,000 (about $6,500 to $9,700 USD). The back of the Hong Kong 1884-1888 HK & Shanghai Banking Corp. 1 Dollar graded PMG 30 Very Fine has a bold red-orange overprint.

A China YR3(1914) L&M-64 50 Cents graded NGC MS 62 being featured in the China Coins and Banknotes sale is estimated at HK$40,000 to HK$60,000 (about $5,200 to $7,700 USD). It features the bust of Yuan Shih Kai, the Republic of China’s first official president from 1912 to 1916. The silver coin has retained much of its lustrous finish.
