NGC-certified Coins Among the Standouts in the Peter Stagnetto Collection of Ancient Coins

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) has certified dozens of rarities in the Peter Stagnetto Collection of Ancient Coins, offered by the Spink auction house in London. Online bidding is now open and ends Wednesday, October 7, 2020.
A well-preserved Kingdom of Macedon Philip II, 359-336 BC Gold Stater graded NGC Ancients MS, 5/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface with Fine Style has an estimate of £8,000 to £12,000 (about $10,300 to $15,400 USD), unsurpassed by any coin in the auction. While this particular coin was struck under Philip III, the Apollo/biga design was introduced by Philip II, King of Macedon from 359 to 336 BC. The coin features Apollo’s laureate head on the obverse and a two-horse chariot on the reverse.

- A Sicily, Syracuse circa 430-420 BC Silver Tetradrachm graded NGC Ancients Ch AU, 4/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface with Fine Style, with an estimate of £4,000 to £6,000 (about $5,100 to $7,700 USD)
- A Sicily, Syracuse circa 405-395 BC Gold 50-Litrai graded NGC Ancients MS, 4/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface, with an estimate of £3,000 to £4,000 (about $3,900 to $5,100 USD)
- A Roman Empire Trajan, AD 98-117 Gold Aureus graded NGC Ancients Ch AU, 5/5 Strike and 2/5 Surface, with an estimate of £3,000 to £4,000 (about $3,900 to $5,100 USD)
- A Roman Empire Antoninus Pius, AD 138-161 Gold Aureus graded NGC Ancients AU, 5/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface with Fine Style, with an estimate of £3,000 to £4,000 (about $3,900 to $5,100 USD)
- A Romano-British Empire Carausius, AD 286/7-293 Silver Denarius graded NGC Ancients AU, 3/5 Strike and 3/5 Surface, with an estimate of £3,000 to £4,000 (about $3,900 to $5,100 USD)
- A Kingdom of Macedon Alexander III the Great 336-323 BC Gold Stater graded NGC Ancients AU, 5/5 Strike and 3/5 Surface, with an estimate of £3,000 to £3,500 (about $3,900 to $4,500 USD)
- A Roman Empire Nero, AD 54-68 Gold Aureus graded NGC Ancients XF, 4/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface, with an estimate of £2,500 to £3,500 (about $3,200 to $4,500 USD)
