2020-S Proof Silver Eagles

Posted on 10/6/2020

Proof Silver Eagles struck at the San Francisco Mint are an annual highlight for collectors.

The US Mint has announced that it is releasing the 2020-S Proof Silver Eagles on October 13. Silver Eagles struck in San Francisco are always popular with collectors, as most Silver Eagles are produced by the West Point Mint; the current demand for precious metals ups the ante.

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is offering special designations and labels to distinguish the 2020-S Proof Silver Eagles. Coins received by NGC within the first 30 days of their release are eligible for NGC’s Early Releases and First Releases designations. The NGC San Francisco special label, featuring one of the city’s famed cable cars, is also available.

Minted since 1986, the Silver Eagle has broad appeal to collectors for both its metal content and the beauty of its design. The obverse features the venerable “Walking Liberty” by Adolph A. Weinman, while the reverse showcases a heraldic eagle from John Mercanti, the renowned former Chief Engraver of the US Mint. The “S” mintmark of the San Francisco Mint is displayed in the lower left of the 2020-S Proof Silver Eagle’s reverse.
