Posted on 7/17/2020

An NGC-certified Italian gold rarity that is nearly 300 years old is among the standouts being offered in the sale.

Heritage Auctions is offering a broad selection of NGC-certified world coins in its World Coins & Ancient Coins Platinum Night Auction. Bidding is now open for the sale, which ends August 5, 2020.

Among the most anticipated coins in the sale is an Italy 1755 Gold 5 Doppie graded NGC AU 58. This coin features Charles Emmanuel III, the Duke of Savoy and King of Sardinia, who ruled from 1730 to 1773. During his reign from his base in northwest Italy, the Mediterranean island of Sardinia — formerly a Spanish possession — became thoroughly Italianized.

Only two of these coins have been certified by NGC and this is the finer example. It has an estimate of $60,000 to $70,000 USD.
