NGC-certified Brazilian Gold Coins Highlight July Auction
Posted on 7/8/2020
A number of coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) highlight a special Heritage Auctions sale of Brazilian coins. Online bidding is now underway for the auction, which ends on July 26, 2020.
Among the most anticipated coins in the sale is a Brazil 1725M Gold 20,000 Reis graded NGC AU 58. During his reign from 1707-1750, King João V of Portugal ordered the mints in Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro, Mozambique and other areas under his rule to coin new currency. King João V was able to create many different denominations of currency due to the excessive supply of gold and diamonds shipped from Brazil to Lisbon. This coin has an estimated sales price of $4,000 to $5,000.
NGC has certified more than 46 million coins, including more than 30,000 vintage and modern coins from Brazil. Among the rarest is an 1822R Pedro I Gold 6,400 Reis, which realized just shy of $500,000 in a Heritage Auctions sale in 2014. You can explore Brazil coins in the NGC Census at NGCcoin.com/census.
