NGC-certified Spring Dollar at Center Stage in July Heritage Auction
Posted on 6/29/2020
One of the most important coins in Chinese numismatics, which is certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), is among the highlights of the HKINF World Coins & Ancient Coins Signature Auction in Hong Kong, China. Online bidding is now underway for the Heritage Auction event, with livestreamed sessions planned for July 12-13, 2020.
The China 1910 Yunnan Silver Dollar, referred to as a “Spring Dollar,” is graded NGC AU 58. The finest of just three known examples, it was the centerpiece of the Norman Jacobs Collection, which also includes an impressive array of other rarities. Bidding had already passed $250,000 two weeks before the auction.
Other lots in this sale with the Norman Jacobs Collection pedigree include some of the rarest Thailand coins Heritage has ever offered. To learn about them, click here.
Another highlight of the sale is a China 1993 Two Peacocks 20 oz Silver 150 Yuan graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo. This extremely rare coin is a variety with the devices near the rim of the coin. Only two examples of this coin have ever been certified by NGC, and this coin is the first to be auctioned off. It has an estimate of $150,000 to $200,000.
“NGC has expertly authenticated and graded some of the greatest vintage and modern Chinese coins known,” said Mark Salzberg, NGC Chairman and Grading Finalizer. “The accuracy, consistency and integrity that NGC certification is known for is now even more important than ever before.”
“Though we understand that many collectors and dealers will be unable to travel to the auction to view the coins in hand, we are sure that NGC’s guarantee of grade and authenticity will allow bidders to make informed and confident decisions from the comfort of their own homes," said Cris Bierrenbach, Executive Vice President of International Numismatics for Heritage Auctions.
