NGC-certified Coins Expected to Top Stack’s Bowers Sale in May

Stack's Bowers Galleries will hold several auctions in Hong Kong, China in early May featuring NGC-graded vintage and modern Chinese coins as well as coins from all over the world. Online bidding for the May 2020 Hong Kong (China) – Session C and Session D lots is now open with the auctions ending on May 5 and 6 respectively.

Among the most anticipated coins in the sale is a China 1989 2oz Gold 200 Yuan Dragon & Phoenix Pattern graded NGC PF 68 Ultra Cameo. This extremely rare coin is one of few examples that exist as it was struck and dated prior to the launch of the Dragon & Phoenix Series in 1990. It has an estimated sales price of $200,000 to $250,000 USD.

Another highlight of the sale is a China - Kwangtung 1889 50 Cents graded NGC MS 63. This desirable pattern issue coin was part of the second series of coins issued by the Kwangtung Mint. As the coins did not meet the weight standards of officials, they were removed from circulation and replaced with a third series of coins. Thus, coins from the second series are extremely rare. It has an estimated sales price of $125,000 to $175,000 USD.

• a China 1912 Copper 10 Cash graded NGC UNC Details Obverse Damage, with an estimate of $60,000 to $80,000 USD
