400-year-old Gold Coin Among NGC-graded Rarities to be Auctioned by Spink at NYINC

A 400-year-old gold coin from India is among the coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) to be offered by Spink Galleries January 19, 2020, in New York City.
The India AH1030//16 (AD 1620/1621) Mughal Empire (Jahangir) Zodiac Mohur graded NGC VF Details has an image of Taurus, the bull, on the obverse and a Persian legend on the reverse saying “Received ornament of gold at Agra for Jahangir Shah (son of) Akbar Shah." The coin has an estimate of $80,000 to $100,000.

The Mughal Empire existed for three centuries, roughly 1526-1857, at one point stretching across today’s Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and much of India. Jahangir’s son, Shah Jahan, is famous for building the Taj Mahal.
Among the other particularly significant NGC-graded collectibles that Spink USA will offer as part of the New York International Numismatic Convention (NYINC) are:
- A Great Britain 1748 Gold 5 Guineas graded NGC MS 63+, with an estimate of $50,000 to $60,000.
- A Japan 1870 Gold 20 Yen graded NGC MS 64 with an estimate of $40,000 to $50,000.
- A British North America 1757 Silver Quaker, Duffield or Treaty of Easton Medal graded NGC Fine Details. The medal was among those struck to give to Native Americans who took part in talks that led to the Treaty at Easton, Pennsylvania. The medal has an estimate of $30,000 to $40,000.
- A Russia 1725 Silver Ruble graded NGC VF Details with an estimate of $2,500 to $3,000.
- A German New Guinea 1894 Silver 5 Mark graded NGC MS 64+ with an estimate of $2,000 to $3,000.
- A Russia 1734 Silver Ruble graded NGC XF 40 with an estimate of $2,000 to $2,500.
- A China Silver Undated (1943-1944) Tael graded NGC MS 63 with an estimate of $2,000 to $2,500.

Spink Galleries on January 17, 2020, as part of the NYINC auctions, will offer a number of banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®), including:
- A Russia 1843-65 25 Rubles State Credit Note graded PMG 25 Very Fine with an estimate of $25,000 to $28,000.
- A Government of India / British Administration Undated (1914-15) 1,000 Rupees graded PMG 25 Very Fine with an estimate of $20,000 to $25,000.
- A State Bank of Pakistan Undated (1950) Specimen 10 Rupees graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated with an estimate of $12,000 to $18,000.
- A Government of India / British Administration Undated (1913-22) 50 Rupees graded PMG 20 Very Fine with an estimate of $13,500 to $17,500.
- A Government of India / British Administration Undated (1930) 50 Rupees graded PMG 20 Very Fine with an estimate of $7,500 to $9,500.
- A Reserve Bank of India Undated (1937) 1,000 Rupees graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine with an estimate of $6,500 to $7,500.
