Highlights Certified by PMG and NGC in Upcoming A. Karamitsos Auction

PMG-certified notes and NGC-certified coins from Greece top the December sale.

Notes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and coins and medals certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) are among the highlights in A. Karamitsos International Auctions’ Public & Live Bid Auction 649, being held December 7, 2019, in Athens, Greece.

The top item in the sale is a National Bank of Greece Undated (1872-86) 500 Drachmai Specimen graded PMG 50 About Uncirculated EPQ with a starting bid of €15,000 (about $16,500 USD). This rarity features the Arms of King George I at upper left, the Greek goddess of agriculture, Demeter, at lower right and Georgios Stavros, founder of the National Bank of Greece, at upper center. PMG’s EPQ designation indicates the note is of Exceptional Paper Quality.

Other PMG-certified highlights in the auction include:

A Greece 1963 30 Drachmai graded NGC SP 65 with a starting bid of €7,200 (about $8,000 USD) is the leading coin in the sale. It is a silver commemorative coin minted for the centennial of the Royal Greek Dynasty, which features the portraits of the five kings who ruled Greece from 1863 to 1963: George I, Constantine I, Alexander I, George II and Paul I. The reverse of the coin, with its detailed map of Greece, displays lovely pastel-colored toning.
