Gold 1696 Transylvania Rarity Certified by NGC Among Offerings in Maison Palombo Sale

A 1696 Transylvania Gold 10 Ducats certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is among the rare offerings in a November 17, 2019, auction presented by Maison Palombo of Geneva, Switzerland.
This 1696 Transylvania Gold 10 Ducats graded NGC MS 63 has an estimate of 220,000 Swiss Francs (about $223,000 USD). Click images to enlarge. |
The coin, graded NGC MS 63, bears a depiction of Leopold I (1640-1705), who was Holy Roman Emperor and King of Hungary, Croatia and Bohemia, a domain that included much of Central and Eastern Europe.
It has an estimate of 220,000 Swiss Francs (about $223,000 USD).
Maison Palombo’s sale also includes an 1825 platinum French medal graded NGC MS 62 that was struck to mark the coronation of Charles X in Reims that year. The medal is 68 mm in diameter and weighs 375.8 grams and is estimated to realize 140,000 Swiss Francs (about $142,000 USD).
A gold coin from Honduras, an 1895/88 20 Pesos graded NGC XF 45, is estimated to realize 90,000 Swiss Francs (about $91,000 USD).
An older coin included in the sale is a 1642 England Charles I Triple Unite graded NGC AU 55 that has an estimate of 60,000 Swiss Francs (about $60,800 USD).
An even older coin, an Aureus from 43-33 BC with a portrait of Marc Antony, graded NGC Ancients AU★, 5/5 Strike and 5/5 Surface, also has an estimate of 60,000 Swiss Francs (about $60,800 USD).
Another ancient coin, an Aureus from ancient Rome from 177 to 183 AD, during Bruttia Crispina’s reign as empress, is graded NGC Ancients MS, 5/5 Strike and 5/5 Surface. The gold coin has an estimate of 55,000 Swiss Francs (about $56,000 USD).

- A 1695 Malta 4 Sequins graded NGC AU 53. Estimate: 50,000 Swiss Francs (about $50,600 USD).
- An undated (1830-1848) France Pattern 100 Francs graded NGC AU Details. Estimate: 45,000 Swiss Francs (about $46,600 USD).
- A 1644 Austria 5 Ducats graded NGC MS 62+. Estimate: 50,000 Swiss Francs (about $50,700 USD).
- An 1815 Germany Thaler with a portrait of a young Friedrich Wilhelm II graded NGC MS 63. Estimate: 50,000 Swiss Francs (about $50,500 USD).
- A 1696 Italy Sequin with a portrait of nobleman Jean Baptiste Ludovisi (1665-1699) graded NGC MS 60. Estimate: 40,000 Swiss Francs (about $40,400 USD).
- An 1810 France Gold Medal commemorating the marriage of Napoleon and Marie-Louise of Austria. The medal is 41 mm in diameter and 29 grams and graded NGC MS 64. Estimate: 40,000 Swiss Francs (about $40,400 USD).
- An 1808 Kingdom of the Netherlands 10 Florins graded NGC MS 63 with a portrait of Louis Napoleon who was appointed king by his brother, French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, in 1806. Estimate 32,000 Swiss Francs (about $32,300 USD).
