Two NGC-graded Gold 1-kilogram Coins Offered in China Hong Kong Auction

Two large gold coins, each weighing one kilogram (32.15 troy ounces) and both graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), will be offered June 25 at a Baldwin’s of St. James’s auction in Hong Kong, China.
One is a 1995 Year of the Pig Gold 2,000 Yuan graded NGC PF 68 Ultra Cameo that is from a mintage of just 15 pieces struck by the People’s Republic of China to start a 12-year lunar 1-kilo series. The scalloped-edge coin has an image of a sow and five piglets. Its estimate is $330,000 to $380,000 (USD).

The second one kilogram gold coin, a 2018 Cambodia 1,000,000 Riels graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo, commemorates the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations with China and has images of Cambodia’s famed Angkor Wat temple complex, the Great Wall of China and Cambodia’s Preah Khan temple. Its estimate is $85,000 to $125,000 (USD).
Another interesting People’s Republic of China coin in the auction is a 1998 5-ounce Celebration of Spring Gold 500 Yuan graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo. It has images of children making kites and a Chinese lantern.
Only 34 of the coins were made, according to "Gold & Silver Coins of China: Standard Catalogue, 1979-2017," by Leo Wang, King L Chan, and Jerry Lin. This coin has an estimate of $250,000 to $300,000 (USD).
A 1987 China Zhan Tianyou 12-ounce Silver 100 Yuan was issued to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of the renowned railway engineer and features his bust. The coin graded NGC PF 65 Matte has an estimate of $150,000 to $200,000 (USD).
Significant NGC-certified coins from other countries include an 1893-M Australia Half Sovereign graded NGC AU 58. The coin has a bust of Queen Victoria on the obverse and an image of St. George and the dragon on the reverse. Its estimate is $110,000 to $125,000 (USD).

- A 1991 China 12-ounce Gold Year of the Goat 1,000 Yuan graded NGC PF 69★ Ultra Cameo. Estimate: $80,000 to $100,000 (USD).
- A 1995 China Bimetallic 500 Yuan Panda graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo. Estimate: $40,000 to $50,000 (USD).
- An 1852 Australia Gold Adelaide Pound graded NGC AU 58. Estimate: $42,500 to $47,500 (USD).
- An 1893 United Kingdom Five Pounds graded NGC PF 63 Ultra Cameo. Estimate: $35,000 to $45,000 (USD).
Baldwin’s of St. James’s was formed in 2017 from St. James's Auctions, established in 2004, and Baldwin’s Auctions – a division of A.H. Baldwin & Sons Ltd., which was founded in 1872.
