A World of Growth
Posted on 5/1/2003
Australia
to Zaire, the World coin market appears to be healthy
and growing steadily. NGC is participating in this growth
through the increasing demand for certified coins in
this area. This growing demand is very broad based,
and interest transcends many time periods and countries.
Submissions of coinage from the 16th century through
2003 have enjoyed a steady, sustained increase. Collectors
and dealers alike rely on having a consistent grading
standard across a wide spectrum of numismatic items.
In fact, several dealers in the United States are selling
certified World coins almost exclusively. Dealers in
a couple of overseas markets have taken to selling certified
coins with a heavy emphasis on NGC products.
In response to this increasing demand, NGC has recently
amended its procedures for submissions of World coins.
World coins must be submitted separately from their
U.S. counterparts on World coin submission invoices.
There are four tiers of service dedicated to World coins.
The World Coin Value Tier is for coins
valued at $300 or less and has a turn around target
time of 10 working days. The price is $11 per coin with
a five coin minimum.
World Gold Tier is similar to our Gold
Rush service, with five working days as a target time.
There is a $1000 value limit with a five coin minimum;
$20 per item.
World Coin Standard is for all coinage
valued at $3000 or less with a 10 working day turn around
target, no minimum number of coins is required; $28
per item.
Walk Through is reserved for items
valued over $3000 with a 24-hour turn around target.
By having these specialized tiers, NGC can better process
the submissions and provide better, more efficient service
to our customers. These segregated submissions can be
directed to their proper channels in-house, avoiding
any unnecessary delays in processing and helping to
maintain our turnaround times.
Due to customer requests, NGC has also recently added
cameo and ultra-cameo designations for proof coins as
well as proof-like and deep proof-like designations
for business strike coinage. These refinements in designations
will help the accuracy of the coins’ description.
This will be particularly helpful on the international
market and with buyers of coins on the internet, where
the coin may not be available for viewing prior to purchase.
NGC’s World coin service will continue to evolve
to meet customer demands. As the market grows and demand
for certified World coins increases, NGC will match
those demands and will be ready to participate in the
growth of the international market.
