NGC-certified World Coins Among Highlights at Künker Auction in Berlin

A very rare set of three platinum coins from Russia are posied to realize six figures each in the sale slated for January 31.

A set of three platinum coins from Russia, all of which have been certified by NGC, are among highlights of the Künker Berlin Auction Sale 316 which will take place at the World Money Fair on January 31.

The largest of the coins, an 1839 Russia Nicholas I Platinum 12 Rubles, graded NGC PF 64 Cameo, has an estimated sale price of 250,000€. The other two coins, an 1839 Russia Nicholas I Platinum 6 Rubles and an 1839 Russia Nicholas I Platinum 3 Rubles, graded NGC PF 64 Cameo and NGC PF 65 Cameo, have estimated sales prices of 150,000€ and 100,000€, respectively.

This set of coins once belonged to Grand Prince George Mikhailovich Romanov (1863-1919) and Duke Emmerich Hutten-Czapski (1828-1896). The Russian platinum coins, which were minted between 1828 and 1845, were the world’s first platinum coins issued. Platinum coins were not very successful, and about 75% of all those minted were melted, making these pieces great rarities.
