Modern Chinese Varieties: 1998 S10Y Panda with Quadrupled Die
Posted on 3/8/2016
This month we will feature two coins of the same date and type. Each of these coins is a 1998 Silver 10Y Panda that features a quadrupled die on the reverse or Panda side. However, each is from a different die. The first one will be labeled QDR-001 and the second QDR-002. We label the coins in the order that they are discovered or in the order that they are submitted to NGC. Since both of these varieties were known to us but not yet featured, QDR-001 will be the first one that was submitted for attribution (Photos 1 & 2).
Details of the doubling of QDR-001, pictured above left, can easily be seen on many of the details of the coin including; the grass, 10Y, .999, left front paw and right eye, etc. (Photos 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7).
Details of the doubling of QDR-002, pictured above right, can easily be seen on; the bamboo leaves, right paw, 10Y, .999, panda right eye, (Photos 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12).
Both of these share a common obverse pictured here (Photo #13).
Look for another interesting variety to be featured next month.
