Modern coins can develop residues and spots that may affect a coin’s grade. NCS conservation can often help return a coin’s surfaces to their original state.

Modern coins can be especially prone to developing certain kinds of residues. These residues are not only unattractive but can have adverse effects on the grade. Removing these kinds of residues leaves a coin that is more aesthetically pleasing and will grade significantly better.

This 1984 Gold Chinese 100 Yuan was submitted to NCS with the hopes that the unattractive hazing residue and reddish copper spots could be safely removed and leave a coin with an original surface. Taking a bit of extra care, conservators at NCS were able to bring the coin back to a more beautiful original state. This coin was able to grade very well with NGC following the conservation work.
