Conservation Showcase: Jamaica 1882H ¼ Penny

Some collectors do odd things with their coins. This 1882 Jamaica as a British Colony copper nickel Farthing coin arrived at NCS with a curious affliction. A numismatist in the past had taped or glued this coin likely to a holder. Though long removed from the holder, a sticky adhesive residue remains all over Queen Victoria’s face, fields, and rims as well as to a lesser extent on the reverse. As an added ill-effect, the residue also discolored portions of the coin in a dreadful fashion.

The conservation professionals at NCS were able to skillfully remove the sticky residue as well as resulting discolorations. Once again this classic Jamaican coin was returned to its true beauty. Following the conservation this coin was able to grade very well with NGC.
