SARASOTA, Fla. (October 17, 2013) — Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) has graded and encapsulated the first 2014 Chinese Panda Silver 10 Yuan Mint State coins. The coins were submitted to NGC for certification at the Beijing International Coin Exposition, held October 11-13, 2013.
China Gold Coin Incorporation (CGCI), the official distributor of precious metal coins for the People’s Bank of China, is believed to have released only 200 of the coins at an invitation-only ceremony at the Beijing Coin Expo on Friday, October 11, 2013. The full distribution of 2014 Silver Panda 10 Yuan coins are not expected to begin until sometime in November.
NGC has recognized the 2014 Chinese Panda Silver 10 Yuan coins released by CGCI at the Beijing Coin Expo with the special pedigree “BEIJING COIN EXPO RELEASE CEREMONY.” Collectors and dealers may submit coins for this pedigree provided they are received by NGC in the original green presentation box by November 1, 2013.
CGCI also displayed the 2014 Chinese Panda Gold 20 Yuan, 50 Yuan, 100 Yuan and 500 Yuan Mint State coins at the Beijing Release Ceremony. Designed by engraver Rocky Zhao, the 2014 Pandas feature a single seated panda holding a bamboo branch.
Panda coins are the most popular Chinese modern coin issues and have a different design every year. The series began in 1982 with four gold medals, which were followed by the widely collected silver 10 Yuan coins in 1983. To date, NGC has certified nearly 340,000 Chinese Panda coins.
