A bright white coin is the desired look for many modern silver coin issues. Improper storage for even a short time can lead to a bright white modern silver coin becoming toned in unusual ways. This particular 1993 Peacock silver 10 Yuan issued by the People’s Republic of China had developed some faint purple and brown toning in diagonal streaks across both the obverse and reverse. Delicate conservation work is required to conserve a modern coin such as this without damaging the surfaces. This, now white, modern silver coin was able to grade numerically very well with NGC following removal of the unattractive toning by NCS conservators.
