NGC to Exhibit the #1 NGC Registry Set: Kamin Collection of Liberty Head Nickels at FUN

It’s been 100 years since the last coinage of Liberty Head Nickels (if one counts the mysterious 1913-dated issue), and the wonderful Kamin Collection—the top-ranking Liberty Nickel NGC Registry Set—celebrates this centennial by bringing together an outstanding assemblage of these coins, several of which are the finest certified by NGC for their respective dates/mints. Advanced collectors know that it is far more difficult to find top-grade gems of the circulation issues than of the proofs, and NGC is proud to present this amazing collection.

1883 NO CENTS
NGC MS 67
Among the most beloved of United States coins is this brief issue whose production was stopped after just 5.5 million pieces because the lack of the word CENTS caused them to be gold plated and passed as half eagles. While common in lesser grades, this superb specimen is tied with just two others as the finest examples certified by NGC. It displays a strong strike and exceptionally clean surfaces, with very bright and faintly prooflike fields. This beauty also carries the NGC star () for outstanding eye appeal.

1889
NGC MS 67
The Philadelphia Mint coined nearly 16 million nickels in 1889, a fairly typical mintage for the period but rather low in comparison to later issues. This stellar gem was most likely coined from recently retired proof dies, as it retains a hint of prooflike surfaces. It possesses an extremely sharp strike and delightfully clean surfaces. Both sides are entirely untoned, and this beauty looks just as it must have when it left the press. Not surprisingly, it is tied with just a single other example as finest certified by NGC.

1912–S
NGC MS 66
Coined only from December 24-28, the 238,000 1912-S nickels represented the first emission of this denomination from the San Francisco Mint. Examples were scarce from their inception, and Mint State survivors are highly prized in any grade. The specimen presented here is nothing less than amazing. Well struck overall, it features very smooth and satiny surfaces which have acquired exquisite golden toning leading into vivid crescents of rich magenta and emerald. Needless to say, this is the finest 1912-S Nickel certified by NGC.
