Modern coins can develop surface issues that require the hand of skillful conservation. Modern gold coins, just like their classic counterparts, can over time develop spots of red. Commonly referred to as copper spots or gold spots, these spots can make a coin much less appealing to the beholder.
Luckily, NCS has developed techniques to safely remove these offending spots from the surface of modern gold coins. This Chinese gold 25 Yuan proof coin was issued as part of a series of similar coins celebrating the treasures of the Forbidden City in Beijing. Careful conservation by NCS conservators was able to remove the offending red spots and this coin was once again a fitting tribute to the Forbidden City.
