Heritage Offers Rare Gold Double Eagle Certified by NGC

Posted on 7/2/2026

Other rarities in the September auction include an early Lincoln Cent with an exceptionally high grade.

A rare Double Eagle is among an exciting selection of US coins certified by NGC® in an auction later this summer. Bidding is expected to open in August for Heritage Auctions' ANA US Coins Signature® Auction #1396, which will be held Sept. 2-6, 2026.

The 1870-CC Double Eagle graded NGC XF 40 is an example of one of the keys in the challenging Liberty Double Eagle series. From the Carson City's inaugural year, these Double Eagles are rare today and completely unknown in Mint State. Only 38 of these coins are listed in the NGC Census. Heritage has offered only 19 examples of this coin in the past decade, and each time the price realized easily surpassed $100,000.
