Trigometric Offers Rare Malaysia Banknotes Certified by PMG

The auction also features several Sultanate of Johore coins that are hundreds of years old.

Modern banknote rarities certified by PMG® mingle with 17th century coins from the Sultanate of Johore certified by NGC® in a Southeast Asian auction this month. Online bidding is already underway for the Trigometric July 2026 Auction, which concludes on July 18, 2026.

The auction's top lot is a group of eight Malaysia, Bank Negara Specimens, including an ND (1986) 1 Ringgit, an ND (1986) 5 Ringgit, an ND (1989) 10 Ringgit, an ND (1989) 20 Ringgit, an ND (1987) 50 Ringgit, an ND (1989) 100 Ringgit, and ND (1989) 500 Ringgit, and an ND (1987) 1,000 Ringgit, graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated to PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1285). This lot has an estimate of RM95,000 to RM200,000 (about $23,000 to $49,000). The 1 Ringgit and 20 Ringgit Specimens are particularly notable because each is among fewer than 10 examples in the PMG Population Report.

Other PMG-certified highlights include:

  • a Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1967) 50 Ringgit Replacement graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1298), with an estimate of RM28,000 to RM50,000 (about $6,900 to $12,000)
  • a group of three Malaysia, Bank Negara notes with matching serial numbers, including a 2017 600 Ringgit graded PMG 69 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ, a 2017 60 Ringgit graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ, and a ND (2017) 1 Ringgit graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1227), with an estimate of RM20,000 to RM40,000 (about $4,900 to $9,800)
  • a group of 10 Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1989) 10 Ringgit notes with fancy serial numbers, graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ to PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1242), with an estimate of RM18,000 to RM30,000 (about $4,400 to $7,300)
  • a pair of Singapore, Board of Commissioners of Currency 5 Dollars, including an ND (1970) graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ and an ND (1972) graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 1512), with an estimate of RM16,000 to RM20,000 (about $3,900 to $4,900)
  • a Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1976-81) 50 Ringgit graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated with a 1 Million Serial Number (lot 1243), with an estimate of RM13,000 to RM20,000 (about $3,200 to $4,900)
  • a Malaysia, Bank Negara ND (1976-81) 100 Ringgit Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 1282), with an estimate of RM13,000 to RM20,000 (about $3,200 to $4,900)

Meanwhile, the top NGC-certified lot is a Malaysia (1615-23) Johore Mas graded NGC MS 64 (lot 1182), with an estimate of RM20,000 to RM25,000 (about $4,900 to $6,100). This coin was struck for the Sultanate of Johore, which was an ascendant power in Southeast Asia in the 17th century that allied with the Dutch. This coin is the sole-highest graded of a mere four examples in the NGC Census.

Other NGC-certified highlights include:

  • a Malaysia (1615-23) Johore Kupang graded NGC MS 63 (lot 1183), with an estimate of RM6,000 to RM8,000 (about $1,500 to $2,000)
  • a group of five Malaysia 1967 coins (1, 5, 10, 20, and 50 Sen) graded NGC PF 64 Ultra Cameo to NGC PF 67 RD Ultra Cameo (lot 1066), with an estimate of RM7,500 to RM12,000 (about $1,800 to $2,900)
  • a Malaysia 1971 5 Ringgit graded NGC PF 68 Ultra Cameo (lot 1067), with an estimate of RM5,000 to RM8,000 (about $1,200 to $2,000)
  • a Malaysia 2011 Gold 100 Ringgit graded NGC PF 70 Ultra Cameo (lot 1150), with an estimate of RM5,800 to RM7,000 (about $1,400 to $1,700)
  • a Malaysia (1685-99) Johore Kupang graded NGC MS 61 (lot 1186), with an estimate of RM4,000 to RM6,000 (about $1,000 to $1,500)
