Vintage Chinese coins and a gold restrike of a British Trade Dollar are among the NGC-graded highlights in the auction.

East meets West as rarities from China and Great Britain certified by NGC® are in the spotlight in an upcoming Heritage Auctions sale. Bidding opens in mid-May for the HKINF World & Ancient Coins Platinum Session and Signature® Auction, which will be held June 17-19, 2026.

A top NGC-certified lot in the auction is a China CD1907 Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 64 (lot 34026), with an estimate of $100,000 to $150,000. This pattern, or proposed coinage, was struck near the end of China's imperial era as officials wrestled with ways to reform the country's fragmented monetary system. The NGC Census lists 42 examples of this particular catalog number, but only two are graded higher than this coin.

To facilitate commerce with China and its colonies in Southeast Asia, Great Britain struck Trade Dollars in silver. A handful of Gold Proof Restrikes are known, tracked by one numismatic researcher to a private individual who provided the bullion and fees to have them struck. They seldom come to auction today, but this sale includes one: a Great Britain 1901C Trade Dollar - Gold Restrike pedigreed to the Chang Foundation Collection and graded NGC PF 63 (lot 34105), with an estimate of $200,000 to $300,000.

Many of the coins in this auction are from the Peh Family Collection, including the two above as well as a highly coveted British coin: an 1839 Una and the Lion 5 Sovereign graded NGC PF 63 Ultra Cameo (lot 34103), which has an estimate of $200,000 to $300,000. Generally regarded as the pinnacle of British numismatics, these coins are eagerly sought by advanced collectors and are a top highlight in whatever auction they appear in. There are 36 examples of this particular Una and the Lion variety listed in the NGC Census, but only five have a higher grade than this one.
