Among the top highlights of this auction is a Poland 1692 Danzig 2 Ducats graded NGC MS 61 (lot 468), with a starting price of 270,000 PLN (about $77,000). Struck in 1692 at the Danzig mint, the coin was issued in the aftermath of King John III Sobieski’s decisive victory over the Ottoman Empire at the Battle of Vienna in 1683, an event that reshaped the political balance of Europe. Today, just two examples of this particular coin are confirmed, according to the auction house.
