NGC Special Labels and Designations for the 2025 Superman Gold Coin and Silver Medals

On July 24, 2025, the US Mint released the 2025-W Superman 24-Karat Gold Proof Coin, the 2025-P Superman 2.5 Ounce Silver Medal and the 2025-P Superman 1 Ounce Silver Medal for presale as part of its Comic Art Coin and Medal Program, with the coin and medals to ship in the fall. Struck at the West Point Mint, the gold coin has a mintage limit of only 10,000, while the 2.5 ounce silver medal, which was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, has a mintage limit of only 25,000.

To commemorate these limited-edition coins and medals, Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) is excited to offer a variety of designations and labels, including the popular NGC Early Releases and First Releases Labels. Plus, NGC is thrilled to introduce a special Superman Label with exclusive licensed art by renowned comic book artist Jim Lee, who has served as President, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer of DC — the publisher of Superman — since 2013.

The US Mint and DC's much-anticipated collaboration on the groundbreaking Comic Art Coin and Medal Program celebrates comic art as a uniquely American art form, while honoring superheroes who represent the best of American culture and values. The gold coin and silver medals each depict Superman and his alter ego Clark Kent as symbols of hope, truth, justice and strength.

The obverse design depicts Superman in flight above his family's farm, as the sun rises in the background. Meanwhile, the reverse design shows Clark Kent as a young adult thoughtfully watching a plane fly overhead as Pa Kent looks on knowingly in the distance. The design explores his dual identity and the concept of "the hero within," with Clark pondering his destiny as a superhero and as a symbol of hope, justice and the American experience.

For coins to qualify for the Early Releases and First Releases designations, NGC must receive submissions within the first 30 days of release.

• If you would like Mint packaging returned, select “Return Mint Packaging” on the NGC Submission Form. The fee is $5, plus the cost of shipping.

Bulk Submissions

NGC’s First Day of Issue designation and labels are available for select bulk submissions only. To qualify for First Day of Issue, coins must be purchased within one day of the first day that a mint makes a new coin issue available for sale and must be received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository within one week of the release date. NGC will require that the submitter provide adequate evidence (including purchase receipts) to demonstrate the date when the coins were purchased.
