NGC-certified Austrian-Dutch Rarity Expected to Realize Six Figures in Kunker Auction

Posted on 6/17/2025

The three-part early July sale includes a variety of NGC-certified rarities from across Europe that range from the Renaissance to modern times.

Dozens of rare European coins that are certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) are being offered in a three-part sale presented by respected German auction house Kunker. Online bidding is already underway for Kunker's Auction 425, which concludes July 3-5, 2025.

The top NGC-certified highlight of the auction is an Austria Netherlands 1751 Antwerp 10 Souverain d'Or graded NGC MS 63 (Part I, lot 1007), with an estimate of €150,000 (about $174,000). The front of the gold rarity features the bust of Francis I, who reigned as Holy Roman Emperor from 1745 to 1765. Francis' marriage to Maria Theresa of Austria, daughter of Emperor Charles VI, elevated him to ruler of the Holy Roman Empire, Austria and Tuscany until his sudden death. NGC has certified only three examples of this extremely rare coin, with this particular example being the "Top Pop" in the NGC Census.
