NGC-certified MintFresh Tubes Offer Enhanced Security for Precious Metals Storage; Coins Inside Qualify for NGC Special Designations

Posted on 2/20/2025

As long as the tube seal is not broken, coin submissions at a later date still qualify for NGC's special designations and labels.

Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) is pleased to certify MintFresh® Tubes, a new standard for securing and authenticating silver and gold bullion. The MintFresh® process preserves the condition of coins by sealing them within tubes sourced directly from mint-issued Monster Boxes. These tubes are meticulously handled and sealed with a tamper-evident MintFresh® sticker and protective shrink-wrap, ensuring they remain untouched and securely stored in NGC’s vaults or an NGC-approved depository.

NGC has a variety of MintFresh® certification options for these tubes and will accept these coins for designations including First Releases, Early Releases, First Day of Issue and Advance Releases, as well as no designation. The coins in these tubes can later be individually submitted for NGC certification and encapsulation with the corresponding designation, so long as the MintFresh® seal on the tube is not broken.

The MintFresh® Process: Preserving Mint State Quality

Upon arrival at NGC or an NGC-approved depository, each Monster Box from the US Mint undergoes careful inspection before the tubes are extracted. Following a thorough review, each tube is sealed with a unique, tamper-evident NGC MintFresh® sticker and protective shrink-wrap.

The tamper-evident MintFresh® sticker provides essential information about the product, including the coin’s type, date and weight. A convenient QR code is also included, providing instant access to detailed information about the MintFresh® process. All MintFresh® tubes retain their original mint seal, further enhanced by the NGC tamper-evident MintFresh® sticker and protective shrink-wrap.

Submitting MintFresh® Tubes for Grading

MintFresh® sealed tubes can be submitted to NGC for grading and maintain their label designation, provided both the tamper-evident MintFresh® sticker and the original roll seal remain intact.

Collectors who purchase these tubes and would like to submit the coins for authentication, grading and encapsulation within individual NGC holders should follow these instructions:

Submission Instructions

  • Submit coins under the Modern grading tier or higher. (View NGC's services and fees here.)
